This tour by 4-wheel
drive showcases the internationally recognised ecological regeneration
programme which has been on-going for the past 26 years, and
for which Robyn Tredwell, Executive Director of Birdwood Downs,
was awarded Rural Woman of the Year in 1995. Methods of pasture
regeneration, using drought-resistant grasses and legumes, on
land previously degraded by decades of overgrazing, over-burning
and stock, have now resulted in improved pasture and control
of invasive wattle trees. The beauty of Birdwood Downs, with
its ancient Boab trees, white gums and groves of shady trees
are explored along with illustrations of new approaches to horse
and cattle management in this dry monsoonal tropics.
